From the archives, 1998 -2000. This work is led by a scientific curiosity
and fascination for the anatomy of the body. Surgical implements
map and dissect the body while pursuing its contours probing and poking its
hollow spaces. The work explores the relationship of hand held tools
and the body. Illustrations of the dissected body (appropriated from the
Sobotta Atlas of Human Anatomy) are illuminated by light boxes and are
accompanied by an arrangement of surgical implements that slice, split and
search the body. The anatomy reveals the interior forms of the body - while the
invading scissors and blades disclose hidden acts performed by the likes of
surgeons and anatomists. Tactile cuts consider wounds and bodily organs, and pry
apart muscle from bone in order to make the unseen seen.©
